This is why when you want to catch a crappie, you can use a minnow as bait. A 6 hook is a good tool to use, and you can even put a cork before you drop in the bait. At least 2 of these rigs would be perfect when you are fishing in shallow water.
If the water is deep, it should be fine to lose these floats and troll the minnows slowly. Do so at different depths. Staggering your baits at 5-foot deep or even deeper should be fine, too. Many anglers troll at up to 15 feet underneath the water.

Best Reels and Rods to Use for Crappie Fishing in Florida
When it comes to the best rods and reels, you should look into using cane poles.
